Nature's Remedies Center was founded by Dr. Shirley Barbosa to bring natural, holistic healing to the Rio Grande Valley.
Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. Shirley Barbosa grew up on her uncle's farm — planting, harvesting, and developing a deep appreciation for wholesome food, fresh air, and clean water. That early connection to the land shaped her lifelong commitment to natural health.
Dr. Barbosa earned her medical degree in Mexico and is a board-certified naturopathic physician through the American Naturopathic Medical Board. She founded Nature's Remedies Center in 2007 and has since become a trusted resource for patients across the Rio Grande Valley, specializing in chronic degenerative conditions and holistic wellness.
Her approach combines dietary adjustments, therapeutic nutrients in the form of liquids, capsules, teas, and powders, along with physical activity — all designed to support your body's natural healing processes. Dr. Barbosa was also the first practitioner to bring the HOCATT™ ozone therapy system to the Valley, and one of the first in the United States.

A small sample of hair is sent to a laboratory, and the results help Dr. Barbosa design a targeted nutritional protocol for your specific needs.
Ozone sauna therapy combines the benefits of steam with ozone (O3). During a session, you sit in a steam cabinet while ozone is introduced. This process is designed to support your body's natural detoxification pathways and may help promote circulation and relaxation. Sessions typically last 20–30 minutes.
No referral is needed. Nature's Remedies Center is a privately owned practice and welcomes all clients interested in exploring natural health options. Simply call or submit our contact form to schedule your first consultation.
Your initial consultation is approximately one hour. Dr. Barbosa uses this time to review your health history, current prescriptions, diet, exercise habits, and stress levels. Follow-up appointments are typically 15 to 30 minutes long. Phone consultations can also be arranged.
Coverage varies by insurance provider and plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about naturopathic or alternative medicine benefits. Nature's Remedies Center can provide documentation for you to submit to your provider.
